Summer League News

From Brett Massey, our delightful league organiser

Social League

Just a reminder that the ACT Ultimate Association’s Summer League will commence on Tuesday 20 January for social league (Division’s 2 & 3) at the Dickson playing fields (6:35pm start). The season will run for 8 weeks and will cost $25.

We now have 20 teams signed up. However, there are still spots available for individual players to register. Players should sign up for a team (with the captain’s permission) or under the ‘players without a team category’. Sign up at:

Div 2 - http://www.afda.com/rego/showdivision.php?divisionid=978

Div 3 - http://www.afda.com/rego/showdivision.php?divisionid=979

League fees can be paid electronically to:

ACT Ultimate
BSB: 801-009
Account #: 309871

Please put your name as the identifying reference (so that we know who the payment is from). Please also mail Anthony Perry (anthony.perry@centrelink.gov.au) when you have made payment.

Those social players who would like a more competitive game are encouraged to consider playing the new Kaboom Premier League.

Kaboom Premier League (KPL)

The KPL is Canberra’s premier competitive league, aiming to provide players with regular quality games. The league will start on Tuesday 3 February at Dickson playing fields and will run for 6 weeks. Games start at 8pm sharp following the social leagues.

Registration

To play on a KPL team you should speak to a captain. The captains for this season are:

Mal Green- pissedmal [at] yahoo [dot] com

Heather Tolley- heathert [at] ecoaus [dot] com [dot] au

Tom Watson- thomasgabriel [dot] watson [at] gmail [dot] com

Jonno Holmes- mrfrisbee [at] hotmail [dot] com

People interested in playing should contact a captain or register for the draft (note that registering for the draft does not guarantee you a spot – you still need a captain’s approval to play on their team). Players can register at:

http://www.afda.com/rego/showdivision.php?divisionid=977

Cost

KPL will cost $25. However, for players who play both KPL and a Social League (either div 2 or 3) there is a discount: $40 will get you entry into both leagues.

Payment can be made electronically (see details above for social league).

Prizes

To encourage competitive play, prize money will go to the winning team. The prize pool is initially $200 (and potentially higher if teams forfeit – see below).

Forfeits

ACTUA wants the KPL to be a high standard league with quality 7-a-side games. All 4 teams will need to have a minimum of 5 women and 8 men registered, to ensure that there are always sufficient players to give the opposition a proper game.

Each team must be able to field a minimum of 7 players (including at least 2 women) to avoid a forfeit. Teams can poach random players (eg from social) to avoid a forfeit, but cannot poach players registered to other KPL teams.

Captains will be asked to put down a small deposit (and may expect a contribution from their players towards this). The deposit will be refunded if the team has no forfeits. If the team has a forfeit, the deposit will be added to the prize pool.

Rules

KPL will be played according to the most current World Flying Disc Federation rules, with the following alterations:

-80 minute games
-Points cap at 15
-5 minute half at 8
-2 time outs per half, 3 in total
-At time cap, finish the point (draws are OK)
-4/3 or 5/2 (2 or 3 women) offense decides
-Round robin format for 6 weeks, winner is top of table at that time (ie no semis and final)

Note that the WFDF rules regarding teams that can’t start the game on time will apply.
